As a former public high-school student (now home-educated) I've seen government-funded violations of the first amendment at (or near) this scale. I must say it's horrible. We should be watching this kind of activity.

But it doesn't scare me. Americans don't make the best researchers, but when a violation of our rights is staring us in the face, there's no way we're going to let it pass--and that is inevitable if this bill is to be enforced. And we have our ways of changing things.

BJ Lawson has won me over quite well, I must say. I'd vote, but I can't yet. And I'm quite a few states over. Though I really hope he wins and moves far up the political food chain.

HR 1955 is in essence the beginning mechanism for the creation of an Orwellian command and control state. If the government deems that certain materials are untoward, down the memory hole they will go and the author of said material will be labeled a terrorist. This bill is extremely dangerous. I am glad that BJ has spoken out so strongly against it. I wish that I could vote for him, but alas, I live in NC's 11th congressional district.

Slight correction there, BJ: Rosa Parks wasn't trying to sit at the front of the bus. When the bus filled up, the driver ordered her to give up her seat (in the back) to a white passenger. The rule that she defied was that if seats were available, blacks had to sit in the back, and if they became scarce, blacks had to stand.

Thomas Sowell has pointed out that neither the bus nor the railroad companies had any particular interest in segregation. They were forced to implement it by state legislatures.

“People should not fear their government, the government should fear it’s people” The constitution was created to restrict the power of the government, and to liberate the people, for some reason we (The United States of America) seem to be drafting an anti-constitution, with all these new anti-liberty bills. What really scary about this is its being done with complete disregard to due process.

I'm sure the Secretary will do a bang-up job of protecting civil rights, just as the Attorney General kept a close eye on the "national security letters."
