No Coasting into the Wall

By: BJ Lawson

I watch little live television, although I did watch some Olympics coverage — mostly to follow Michael Phelps. One thing I learned from watching Phelps race is that it’s never a good idea to coast into the wall, and that every kick and stroke makes a difference.

So we have one more week of early voting before election day, and yesterday morning I sent out an impassioned request for one more wave of donations so we can take this campaign full throttle all the way to next Tuesday.

Briefly, we spent a lot of money on direct mail, radio, print, and TV advertisements, and underbudgeted for our GOTV and efforts at the polls — which are proving amazingly effective. Here’s a video snapshot outlining the success we’ve had reaching voters with our message of principled change, accountability, and following the Constitution:

Needless to say, the Constitution is much more effective than a trite “Working for Us” handout provided by a 20-year incumbent who works for his corporate donors. Can you help us order more Constitutions for election day?

We also have been addressing the issue of voting for a “Republican” head on. Specifically, voting Lawson for Congress is important not just to elect a principled voice of reason to Congress, but to provide a principled voice of reason to an out-of-touch Republican establishment. The party is killing itself, but even worse, it’s killing our country. We can’t run from the challenge to take back our country, or our political parties. So why re-elect a corporate establishment Democrat, who answers to Nancy Pelosi and saddles all of us with David’s Price?

Speaking of the establishment, we have a quick interview with Theresa Sanders about her experience having someone “relieve her” on the first day of early voting:

Help us win this race the right way. Wherever you are, you can join us by participating in our user-friendly Voter Outreach program — one couple raised over $750 and garnered many votes yesterday alone just by calling local voters!

Finally, here’s a video snapshot of this evening’s activities:

Thank you again for your support.

BJ, ask RP for a plea for donations!!! It will work guaranteed!!!

I agree with John C Randolphs comment, but I’ll take it one further. The world is on the edge of their seats! My wife is American and we’re up in Canada wishing you the best of luck! The message of freedom is universal, it doesn’t stop at the borders. I check your web page every day for updates, so I want to thank you and your staff for keeping everyone updated. Keep up the great work! I also want to thank you for taking up the real fight for freedom!

First video is working again. Thanks for fixing that, whoever took care of it.

I agree with Mr. Randolph as well. Liberty-minded, freedom-loving people everywhere are hoping/praying for you to win. We definitely need more people like you in D.C., you have our complete support.

    BJ,

RP supporters here in Texas are standing by. We are excited to have like minded individuals take a stand for freedom. Thank you for taking a risk by putting it all on the line.

    In freedom,

Im on the edge of my seat. Your going to win I can feel it…

  11. Dan Says:

    Some paper endorsed Price.

But you gotta love the first paragraph:

“North Carolina’s 4th District is facing its tightest congressional race in more than a decade.”

  12. Nathan Hamilton Says:

I love seeing you behind the camera taking such an active role in motivating your supporters. Keep up the amazing work and never forget the advantage that keeping your ear to the ground affords you.

    BJ Lawson for Congress!

  13. Kyle Says:

That article posted by Dan has some funny stuff in it. Here’s one quote in particular that nearly made me spew my drink:

“He supports government sponsorship of localism through the radical restructuring of essential institutions such as the Department of Education and the Federal Reserve.”

Take note of the use of “essential institutions.” These entities are by far some of the worst that we have!

  14. Pieter Says:

Lawson’s on a MacBook! Yet another reason to support him. :D

  15. Tiffany Says:

As a liberty-loving, Constitution-defending Duke alum, I’ve e-mailed all my friends that still live in Durham and asked them to vote for you. I know I’ve got at least one convinced!

Good luck–we’re all pulling for you!

  16. Edward Says:

After having read that biased article, I just sent BJ a donation to help him out because he doesn’t deserve to lose any votes no thanks to that article.

Anyone want to match me and teach the Duke Chronicle a lesson?

  17. Russell Says:

    From the previously mentioned article:

“Unfortunately, Lawson displays a naivety regarding the machinations of policy creation in Washington and a myopic view of the policy implications of his ideals.”

The machinations of policy creation in Washington are BROKEN. We need someone that can help overhaul the engine with the US Constitution as the manual, not someone that can continue to push a money-pit vehicle down the road of destruction.

I think the editors are naive to think that the Washington Machine is a finely tuned example of efficiency.

  18. Sean Tracy Says:

Lawson, if you lose this election, I’m leaving this country. I don’t even live in your district…not even the same state.

  19. Alex Scholz Says:

Great videos. And I have to add a few thoughts garnered from working the polls. Not only is Price’s staff down here in mass (they theoretically “took time off” from their government salaries to come down) to fight the election, but they are edgy. And for good reason. Where I worked Saturday two of the folks working the Obama table had already voted for BJ and one wonderful woman was so angry about Price’s attempts to bring the National Bio Agro Defense Lab to our district that she would not allow any Price literature on their table. We’ve had great relations with almost everyone working for the DNC or the Obama campaigns. Sure they’re pushing for people to vote a straight DNC ticket, but Price isn’t popular with a lot of them, and many who know BJ or have read about him don’t feel threatened by his principled stances on so many issues. And they know Price. They’ve watched his voting record go down hill over 20 years. And the funniest thing to see working side by side with the people from Price’s office, they can’t always give away information about Price, but most people are pretty happy about taking a copy of the US Constitution and some information about BJ. And you know what? These same voters all are all still carrying the Constitution and slimjims about BJ in their hands when they leave. Most people I saw who had even left and come back because of the long lines still had the Constitutions and information about the campaign with them when they came back. All very gratifying.

  20. Matt Massaro Says:

    BJ,
Keep up the amazing work. Many of us in TN are supporting your campaign and are inspired by your adherence to constitutional principles and your constituents’ recognition that those principles transcend political parties and are invaluable. Thank you.

  21. Kathy Says:

Great videos BJ. Thanks to all these volunteers who’ve spent so many hours manning the polls and bringing your message to the voters! And thanks too to all those working behind the scenes!

Alex, I agree with you. I spoke to a lot of people tonight who knew of BJ, and were already planning on voting for him, including some enthusiastic Democrats.

Funny thing about the truth - people know it when they hear it.

  22. John C. Randolph Says:

    BJ,

Looking back at your debate with Price, when he was making his smart-ass comments trying to make you look like a nut for wanting the government to follow the constitution, I wish you’d gotten the chance to say something along these lines:

Maybe you can make a compelling utilitarian argument for some of the unconstitutional activities that the federal government engages in, and if so, then propose an amendment, let’s have that national debate, and maybe you can get your amendment ratified.

We have a written constitution in this country, and despite its having been routinely ignored whenever people like David Price found it inconvenient, it is nevertheless the entirety of the legal basis for the government’s existence.

  23. Justin B. Clark Says:

I’m to young to donate money, or vote for BJ…but I’ll be working the polls in my precinct all day (well, until 5 when i have to go to work)…the message of liberty is one that transcends party lines…BJ is the true changemaker in this election and i hope be able to celebrate his victory in 7 days!

  24. Mirand Sharma from Florida Says:

A win would not only be great for Liberty, it would be a symbolic move for the country to get back to the Constitution.
    Good Luck GUYS!!!
